When Jessie came home from work this evening, I told her I was going to try something so devious it would either be the greatest thing we ever ate or a waste of tater tots.
Tater tots are little bites of heaven. You don’t really have to do anything to them to enjoy them. But I wanted to see if they could be even better. And the result is really simple and could be an elegant side-dish to just about anything.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- A few handfuls of frozen Ore-Ida Tater Tots (as much as you would normally prepare for however many people you’re preparing it for – I used two generous fistfuls for two people)
- Up to a cup of heavy whipping cream
- 1 Tablespoon of butter per person
Here’s what to do:
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Spread the frozen tater tots over a baking sheet.
- Bake the tater tots for 16-18 minutes.
- Put the baked tater tots in a large bowl. Using a potato masher, crush the tater tots.
- Mix in the butter with a wooden spoon, then mix in a small amount of cream at a time until it reaches the desired consistency (kind of like lumpy mashed potatoes).
- Season with sea salt and fresh-cracked pepper and enjoy.
