He may be the hard-nosed head judge on Bravo’s “Top Chef,” but apparently Tom Colicchio can let loose, too, especially when the tequila is flowing.
Last night we attended T-bones & Tequila, a fundraiser for the Mario Batali Foundation at a home in Aspen, Colo. The food was great, the swag (including a pair of Crocs for each of us) was cool, the drinks (the event was co-sponsored by Milagro) were divine, and it was great fun to rub shoulders with the likes of Mario Batali, Tim Love, Harold Dieterle and a few chefs who we recognized but couldn’t place a name on. The highlight of the night, however, was standing a few feet from one of my favorite chefs as he did something completely unrelated to food…
Tom Colicchio’s “Think Like a Chef” is one of my favorite cookbooks to flip through for inspiration, and I think his food knowledge is one of the reasons “Top Chef” has been so popular. He knows what it takes to cook food extremely well. And he’s not a terrible singer, though I wouldn’t suggest he gives up his day job any time soon.

Too bad they didn’t play any GD tunes…their “Steal your Face” music folders had me all excited.
Unfortunately I think that video isn’t the best representation of what they did, but it was the first opportunity I had to set down my delicious plate of food and cocktail to video them. The rest of the set was actually much better performed.
