Stuffed Pizza Tomatoes
As we’ve written in the past, Bryan and I like to cook together – we’ve been each other’s sous chefs and we have split meal duties. The other night, we were able to be in the kitchen together after what seems like a long few months of work, events, travel and losses in our family. [...] -
What to make for the Big Game?
Football, basketball, you name it, this recipe for stuffed Italian bread would be great to make when entertaining family and friends. -
Leeks, Garlic and Ginger, Oh My
We both got home from work a bit late tonight and we didn’t feel like cooking up a complete meal. After searching through our pantry, refrigerator and freezer for inspiration, I found some chicken and vegetable potstickers and decided to pan-fry them and create a quick rice dish. The rice dish turned out better than [...] -
Cherry Tomato Pizza Margherita – Recipe Review
My parents were here last week, so we went to a few of our favorite local restaurants over the weekend. On Monday night, we decided to have homemade pizza. We made a hot sausage pizza with garlic and cheese as well as cherry tomato pizza margherita. We started with the recipe from Bon Appetit, found [...] -
Pork with Riesling and shallots
I’ve cooked a lot of pork in my day, and this might be my all-time favorite creation. This was an ad-libbed meal using what we had sitting around in the freezer and the fridge, and I can’t wait to try the sauce on other proteins (especially chicken). If you’ve ever made Bifteck Bercy (see “Mastering [...] -
Lemon-Garlic Chicken
We went out and did some shopping this afternoon, finishing our shopping day by visiting a new grocery store. In the meat section, they had some delicious and fresh-looking chicken quarters at a great price: $4.77 for 3 1/2 pounds (4 leg quarters). They also had some pretty fresh-looking lemons. As usual, I made this [...] -
Bruschetta Heaven
If you are reading this blog and haven’t watched Julie and Julia, shame on you. I grew up watching Julia Child on TV with my parents and my family absolutely loves the cookbook Julia and Jacques Pepin wrote. One of the scenes in Julie and Julia involves Julia Powell (played by Amy Adams) making bruschetta [...] -
My take on our Top Chef tour
As Bryan mentioned in his post, Our tour of chefs who should have won Top Chef begins, we traveled to Atlanta last weekend to specifically visit Woodfire Grill, Kevin Gillespie’s restaurant (Top Chef finalist, season 6). As luck would have it, we were bumped up to an earlier Delta flight and landed in time to [...] -
WTF do you do with a Cornish game hen?
Every time I walk down the frozen meats aisle in the grocery store I see this cute little vacuum-sealed Cornish game hens. They seem like they should be so simple to cook and prepare — after all, they’re so cute and tiny, and certainly a pre-plucked, pre-cleaned bird sealed in plastic should be as easy [...] -
Hawaiian Favorites – Ninniku-Ya
We’ve been neglect on our blog, but for good reason. We went to Hawaii for 10 days and I started a new job. The trip to Hawaii was wonderful. Not only did we get to leave the “ish” of February, we were submersed in sunshine and palm trees for 10 days. The highlight for me on [...] -
Homemade pizza
Good pizza starts with the dough and I’ve been using a great pizza dough recipe that is ready in 30 minutes: Pizza Dough Recipe 1 ½ C. warm water (120-130 degrees Fahrenheit) 1 package dry Fast Rise yeast 1 T. honey 1 t. salt 3 T. olive oil 4 C. unbleached all purpose flour Combine [...]
